Working with Industry

The electronics research group works closely with several significant New Zealand industrial partners. Much of this work is funded directly by industry, with the assistance of research-grants from the Ministry for Business, Innovation & Employment.


Our primary expertise is the development of new algorithms for statistical inference, and embedding these algorithms in smart devices for measurement and control. One of our research aims is to develop a suite of tools that do a better job than traditional signal-processing techniques. We apply these to the following areas

  • Model-based inference engines embedded into agritech sensors
  • Development of application specific hardware for inference computations
  • Remote sensing inference of water constituents
  • Satellite-based positioning algorithms, with applications to asset tracking
  • Development of ultra-low-power GPS tracking devices
  • Impedance imaging
  • Acoustic tomography
